The President of Uzbekistan highlights the priorities of multifaceted cooperation development of the Turkic states

President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Budapest on May 21.

The event, chaired by Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orbán, was also attended by President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, President of Kyrgyzstan Sadyr Japarov, President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, as well as Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States Kubanychbek Omuraliyev.

In accordance with the agenda, views were exchanged on the state and prospects of multifaceted cooperation within the Organization, and topical issues of practical interaction were discussed.

At the beginning of his speech, the leader of Uzbekistan gave a profound assessment of the evolving situation in the world, characterized by intensifying geopolitical and geo-economic contradictions, escalating regional conflicts and negative consequences of climate change.

The President noted the importance of strengthening common approaches and positions of the Organization's states in addressing pressing international issues, relying primarily on the norms of international law and the UN Charter.

Referring to the development of practical cooperation within the framework of the Organization of Turkic States, the President of Uzbekistan pointed to the vast untapped potential and made a number of new proposals.

In political terms, the importance of signing the Treaty on Strategic Partnership, Eternal Friendship and Fraternity of Turkic States initiated by the Uzbek side was emphasized. The President expressed confidence that this document will serve to further bring the peoples closer together and strengthen the long-term legal framework for multilateral cooperation.

The President paid special attention to the development of trade and economic, investment, transport and communication interaction. Thus, in order to increase the share of mutual trade in the total foreign trade turnover of the Organization's countries, it was proposed to create an online platform “TURK-Trade” and adopt a practical program to increase trade turnover.

In order to ensure the growth of cargo transportation along the Trans-Caspian International Corridor and simplification of customs and border procedures, the President of Uzbekistan called for the speedy introduction of “single window” and “green corridors” along this route. In order to expand cooperation in this direction, the International Forum of Turkic States on Multimodal Transport and Logistics is scheduled to be held in Tashkent in November this year.

Welcoming the establishment of the Turkic Investment Fund, the President also stressed the importance of creating a Joint Venture Company to support innovative projects and a single portal where investment opportunities of the Organization's member countries will be presented.

In order to increase cooperation in the sphere of industrial cooperation, it was proposed to develop a special program for the creation of large production facilities in the chemical, energy, mining, light, pharmaceutical, leather and footwear, food and construction industries.

Touching upon the climate agenda, the Head of our state noted with satisfaction that during the International Climate Forum held recently in Samarkand a number of important initiatives were put forward to strengthen global and regional cooperation in the field of “green” development. The initiative of the Prime Minister of Hungary, Viktor Orbán, to launch the Institute for Drought Prevention in Budapest was supported.

In order to facilitate its activities and broader involvement in targeted projects, it was proposed to develop a joint road map on drought prevention and environmental problems.

The President of Uzbekistan paid special attention to the development of cooperation in science, culture and education. It was stressed that the opening of the International University of Turkic States in the city of Tashkent will be a worthy contribution to the implementation of educational programs and training of talented young people of the Organization's member states.

The leader of Uzbekistan also proposed to develop suggestions to improve the activities and structure of the International Organization of Turkic Culture - TURKSOY, as well as to hold a regular meeting of the Council of the Turkic Culture Foundation in Uzbekistan.

At the end of his speech, the President of Uzbekistan congratulated prominent Turkish scientist, biochemist, Nobel Prize laureate Aziz Sanjar on the awarding of the Alisher Navoi International Prize.

The summit resulted in the adoption of the Budapest Declaration, as well as a number of other documents on priority areas of interaction.
