On April 7, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the delegation of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, consisting of the chairperson of this authoritative body Tulia Ackson and the Secretary General Martin Chungong.
The high representatives of the Inter-Parliamentary Union sincerely congratulated the Head of our state on the successful organization of the Union's anniversary Assembly in Tashkent and his keynote speech at its plenary session.
It was emphasized that holding such a large-scale forum in Uzbekistan and the full support of the proposed initiatives are international recognition of the irreversible reforms in the New Uzbekistan, especially in the field of parliamentary development.
The highest level and fruitful nature of cooperation with the Union were noted with satisfaction.
Over the past few years, joint efforts have led to the organization of the Inter-Parliamentary Forum on the Sustainable Development Goals in Bukhara and the 14th Summit of Women Speakers of Parliament in Tashkent.
In addition, a special resolution was adopted by the UN General Assembly on strengthening the role of parliaments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
During the conversation, the importance of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening peace and constructive dialogue between countries and peoples was emphasized, along with the expansion of legislative activities in the areas of "green" development and artificial intelligence, implementation of programs to increase the involvement of women and youth in parliamentary activities.
At the end of the meeting, in recognition of the significant contribution to the development of cooperation and effective promotion of parliamentary diplomacy, the President of Uzbekistan personally awarded the Secretary-General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong with the "Dustlik" Order.
It is worth noting that in 2017, Uzbekistan resumed its participation in the work of the Union and is now fully represented in its executive structures.
