On March 22 President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Samarkand and visited Imam Bukhari mausoleum. Surahs from the Quran were recited.
- Recently we celebrated Navruz with the people. And today, in the holy month of Ramadan, we are in this blessed place. We express our gratitude to the Almighty for granting us an opportunity to meet these great days in peace and tranquility. May peace and prosperity always reign in our country and all good deeds be implemented. We are creating this complex worthy of the great merits of our ancestor Imam Bukhari. Let it become not only a place of pilgrimage, but also a center of enlightenment, education and spiritual edification, - said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The mausoleum of Imam Bukhari is one of the most revered places in the Islamic world. On the initiative of the Head of State, a new large-scale memorial complex is being built here for the convenience of numerous pilgrims.
The area of the complex is 44 hectares. The construction of a majestic mausoleum and a mosque for 10 thousand people has already been completed. Four minarets 75 meters high give the complex a special monumentality. A museum, covered galleries, administrative and auxiliary buildings have also been built.
Currently, finishing works with the use of national traditions and warm color palette continue. Hadiths from “Sahih al-Bukhari” will be placed on the facades and walls of the aiwans.
In addition, the construction of more than 20 hotels with 2 thousand beds and walking alleys is envisaged.
According to the plan, a cathedral mosque for 1,500 people and an administrative building will be built here. There will also be a library, a conference hall, an innovative museum and premises for specialists. A parking lot and a tahorathona will be provided for pilgrims.
Imam Abu Mansur al-Moturidi lived at a time when divisions were growing in the Islamic world and different currents were spreading. He devoted his entire life to defending the true Islamic faith and spreading enlightenment. His works such as “Tawilat al-Quran” and “Kitab al-Tawhid” became the spiritual foundation of Sunni Islam, which advocated moderation and tolerance.
The President emphasized that al-Moturidi's ideas are still relevant and instructed to study and popularize the great scholar's legacy in depth, as well as to create all necessary conditions for visitors to the complex.
Another noble project is the improvement of the shrine of Makhdum Azam in Akdarya district. A native of present-day Kasansay district, this prominent Sufi scholar was one of the leading preceptors of the Naqshbandiya tariqat. After completing his long journey on the path of science and faith, he found his final resting place in Samarkand region.
The place also attracts many pilgrims. For their convenience, a three-storied parking lot and a tahorathon are planned to be constructed near the mausoleum of Makhdum Azam.
Places related to the life and activities of other great scholars, philosophers and saints who emerged from the Samarkand land will also be gradually restored and beautified.
