On February 3, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a report on major transport infrastructure projects.
In the context of the growing needs of the population and the economy, the country's transport network is consistently developing. In accordance with the decree of the Head of State dated October 10, 2023, the road sector was improved, which enabled to expand the scale of construction, repair and operation of roads.
The document provides for the creation of modern highways. In particular, with the support of the World Bank, a project for an alternative route "Tashkent - Andijan" was developed. The commissioning of this 314-kilometer highway will reduce travel time between the two cities from 5 to 3 hours, increase the gross domestic product by 2.6 percent and reduce the number of road accidents by 40 percent.
An international tender was recently announced for this project, in which many leading foreign companies expressed interest.
The meeting reviewed proposals for the project. The Ministry of Transport was given instructions on the construction of alternative highways and other busy areas, improving the convenience and safety of roads, and organizing various paid services.
The President was also provided with information on the project of creating a dry port in Navoi region jointly with the Emirati company AD Ports Group.
