President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the creative work being carried out at the Center of Islamic Civilization in Uzbekistan on January 29.
This unique project has no analogues in the history of our country. Today, the majestic building has already been erected, and the construction has reached the final stage.
The center is being built in accordance with the presidential decree of June 23, 2017. On the day of Ramadan Hayit 2018 holiday, the Head of our state laid the foundation stone of the center.
The majestic building of the center consists of three floors and is made in the style of ancient architectural monuments. The traditional dome and facade, a unique combination of national ornaments give it a special beauty and grandeur. On four sides of the complex there are 34-meter high portals, and in the center there is a 65-meter high dome.
The heart of the center will be the hall of the Koran. Here will be placed the priceless relic of the Islamic world - the most ancient Muskhaf Usman. It will also display copies of the holy book created during the eras of Samanids, Karakhanids, Khorezmshahs, Uzbeks, Temurids and other historical dynasties, their translations into the old Uzbek language, as well as the rarest handwritten copies of the Koran from all over the world.
– Many books, ancient manuscripts, unique information and works of art related to our rich and distinctive heritage were scattered across different countries and remained unknown to us for a long time. Thanks to this center, we have made huge strides in the study of history, discovered new sources. But now it is important not only to preserve them as monuments of the past, but to introduce them into active scientific circulation, convey them to our citizens, especially young people, in an accessible form and widely present them to the world community. This center should become not only a custodian of history, but also an intellectual space that connects the past, present and future, determining the key directions of our development,” Shavkat Mirziyoyev emphasized.
The complex will organize sections “Pre-Islamic Civilizations”, “The First Renaissance”, “The Second Renaissance”, “Uzbekistan in the 20th Century” and “New Uzbekistan – New Renaissance”. The President paid special attention to their scientific concept and the conditions created.
The history of these periods is presented through various artifacts, handwritten sources, photographs and multimedia technologies. Particular emphasis is placed on the multifaceted activities of scholars and thinkers Al-Khwarizmi, Al-Farghani, Al-Farabi, Al-Beruni, Ibn Sina, Mahmud Zamakhshari, Mirzo Ulugbek, Alisher Navoi, Ali Kushchi and others. At the same time, a separate section has been created dedicated to outstanding women of the past - Bibikhanum, Honzodabegim, Gavkharshodbegim, Gulbadan, Nodirabegim, Uvaisi, Anbar Atyn, who patronized science and art. This exposition will serve as an inspiring example for modern girls.
The Head of State noted the significance and objectives of the center.
- The Islamic civilization and Islamic teachings have always been based on science, culture, education and upbringing. These values are the foundation of the center we are creating. Its main goal is to unite in one place the millennial heritage of Islamic culture associated with our country. Everyone who visits this center will be able to see the greatness of this history, realize that Islam is first and foremost a religion of peace, progress and tolerance, as well as gain a deeper understanding of the outstanding contribution of the Uzbek people to the world civilization - noted the President.
In this regard, it has been emphasized that it is necessary to deeply study the heritage of great ancestors and turn it into a living force capable of responding to the challenges of modernity. It is important to scientifically and methodologically coordinate the activities of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan, research centers named after Imam Bukhari, Imam Termezi, Imam Maturidi and other scientific and educational institutions. Joint efforts are needed to develop scientific answers to current challenges, as well as to counter ignorance through education.
- In the future, this center will become a symbol of our architectural school, the scientific and spiritual potential of New Uzbekistan. Each of its sections should carry a deep meaning and reflect this mission. Cooperation has already been established with leading foreign museums, libraries and authoritative specialists, scientific works and books are published. However, it is important that this work is systematic and scientifically substantiated. Our main goal is to understand and popularize our national identity, - emphasized the Head of State.
The center actively cooperates with leading international scientific organizations, including UNESCO and ICESCO. In August 2024, the VIII International Congress on the theme "The Heritage of Great Ancestors - the Foundation of the Third Renaissance" was held in Tashkent and Samarkand, which brought together about 200 scientists from 35 countries. During the event, valuable proposals were put forward for the further development of the center.
