President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was provided with information on the work being carried out and future plans in the field of sports.
Primarily, attention was paid to the further development of mass sports and the Olympic movement. At the recent Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, athletes from Uzbekistan won a total of 39 medals and took 13th place among more than two hundred countries. This was the highest achievement in the history of domestic sports.
At a meeting with the winners and prize-winners of these prestigious competitions, the Head of our State emphasized the need to begin preparations for the games planned in Los Angeles in 2028 and expand participation in various disciplines.
In this regard, the Ministry of Sports, the National Olympic and Paralympic Committees once again critically analyzed the untapped opportunities in sports.
For example, there are 48 track and field disciplines and 49 water sports disciplines at the Olympic Games. However, 5 and 4 of our representatives respectively participated in them.
There are federations and conditions for the development of tennis, shooting, gymnastics, and cycling. There is great untapped potential in Greco-Roman wrestling, equestrian sports, fencing, and rowing. It is also necessary to develop team sports in hockey, basketball, handball, rugby, and water polo.
Tasks have been defined to intensify the activities of these sports federations and improve the system of training sessions.
It has been emphasized that the national Olympic and Paralympic movement draws strength from mass sports, and instructions have been given to expand selection work in mahallas and professional training of talented youth.
As it is known, next year our country plans to hold the Asian and Paralympic Games among youth. An Olympic village is being built in Tashkent for this purpose.
During his recent visit to the village, the President noted that this complex should become a scientific, practical, and training center for national sports.
Respectively, after the Asian Games, it is planned to effectively use the infrastructure of the Olympic town. For this purpose, the management of the complex will be established in line with "Smart City" concept. The structure will be engaged in the maintenance of sports complexes, monitoring the condition of equipment and technical systems, and repairing them if necessary. An annual plan for priority sports will be approved, athletes from the regions will conduct training sessions in the Olympic town. This structure will also be granted the right to organize mass events, provide rental services and others.
When it comes to the Olympic movement, one should not lose sight of the winter games. One of the promising areas is hockey.
Today, there are 4 sports clubs and 3 sports facilities for hockey in the country. Our under-16 team took the 1st place at the Asia-Oceania Cup in 2023. This year, this tournament was held for the first time in Uzbekistan, where our under-18 team won.
In this context, proposals have been prepared for the development of this sport with the subsequent construction of a hockey complex at the Olympic town.
The Head of State gave instructions on the broad involvement of the population in physical culture and mass sports, as well as systematic preparation for international competitions.
