President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed on the work being done to develop mass sports and expand the Olympic movement.
Sport is being widely developed in our country as an important factor in promoting public health and raising a healthy generation. We have the necessary infrastructure, including stadiums, training halls, workout grounds, treadmills, sports schools and complexes.
Thanks to physical culture in makhallas, regional competitions and the Five Initiatives Olympiad, the number of sports enthusiasts is growing. At the same time, talented and promising young people are selected, and qualified professional athletes are trained.
The State Program for the implementation of the Strategy ‘Uzbekistan - 2030’ in the Year of Support for Youth and Business identifies many tasks in this area. In line with this, basic sports equipment has been provided to general education institutions. The period of use of stadiums and other sports grounds in makhallas has been extended. Local marathons and competitions in football, volleyball, table tennis, chess, checkers, running and kurash are being held with the aim of attracting 10 million people to mass sports.
The work on improving the conditions for sports in the regions, digitalization of selection processes, and mastering best practices was also noted.
The Head of State was also informed about the progress of preparations for the XXXIII Summer Olympic Games.
As it is well-known, this prestigious tournament will be held from July 26 to August 11 in the capital of France, Paris. More than 10 thousand athletes from 206 countries will take part.
Uzbekistan will be represented by 90 athletes in 19 sports. In addition to the sports in which our athletes are traditionally strong, this year, for the first time, vouchers have been awarded for football, diving, archery and women's wrestling. In addition, 36 percent of Uzbek Olympic athletes are women.
Our national teams have been preparing for the Games at a high level. An individual strategy has been adopted for each athlete, and their participation in selection competitions, and local and foreign training events has been ensured. The necessary training conditions have been created in 15 Olympic and Paralympic centers and sports bases in the regions. Regular in-depth medical examinations of athletes have been carried out, and systematic measures have been taken to provide medical, biological, and pharmacological support.
The Head of state wished our athletes success at the Olympic Games. Instructions were given to responsible persons to select and support talented young people in order to form a quality reserve for the national teams.
