On July 15, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed the report on the process of admission to state higher education institutions, improvement of the quality of higher education system and introduction of international educational programs.
At present, higher education institutions are conducting entrance exams. 805 thousand applicants take part in them.
The responsible officials provided information on the plan for the 2024/2025 academic year of the State training order for higher education institutions. It was noted that this year the number of quotas in both bachelor’s and master’s degree courses in “engineering”, “construction”, “natural sciences”, “mathematics”, “information technology” is increasing. Admission to training on a paid-contract basis in State and non-State institutions is carried out under the same conditions, within the framework of scientific potential and material and technical base of universities.
The Head of State gave instructions on approval of the general state order to higher educational institutions, paying special attention to the requirements of development of the country and the needs of the labor market.
In our country there is a high demand for engineering personnel. On June 20, a video conference set a goal to improve the activities of higher education institutions in this area.
Currently, Surkhandarya has the Termez Institute of Engineering and Technology and the Termez Institute of Agrotechnologies and Innovative Development. Through their consolidation, it is planned to create the Termez State University of Engineering and Agricultural Technology.
This will allow introducing an effective management system, reducing the number of duplicate faculties and departments, and optimizing individual staff units.
An advanced engineering school will be established at the new university. Students with high qualifications will be selected on a competitive basis and will be trained in special educational programs oriented on practice. Industrial partners in the respective areas of schools and modern laboratories will be established. Based on their proposals, research and development will be organized.
During the presentation, instructions were given to attract specialists with foreign experience, high scientific and practical qualification to the management and teaching positions of the university, and to assess the effectiveness of their work based on international standards.
The Head of State stressed the need to strengthen the integration of the industry, enterprise and higher educational institution, training advanced, competitive specialists.
During the visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the United States in September 2023, agreements were reached in the field of education. Thus, the American University of Technology is expected to open in Tashkent.
The university will train personnel in engineering, architecture and design, information technology, health, economics and finance, international relations. Students will be given the opportunity to spend one year of undergraduate and master’s studies in a distance form. Graduates will be awarded an Arizona State University diploma or a foreign partner university diploma recognized in the USA.
Organizational measures and further objectives in this direction were defined.
