On July 11, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Fergana region to familiarize himself with the lives of the population and regional development.
Extensive efforts are underway in Uzbekistan to enhance transportation infrastructure. In the aviation sector alone, airports in Samarkand, Termez, Muynak, and Zaamin have been renovated and put into operation. The international airports in Tashkent and Urgench are being repaired, and the "Tashkent-East" airport is undergoing reconstruction.
In March of this year, Kokand Airport reopened, and today it welcomed a flight carrying the President of Uzbekistan.
Originally built in 1977 for short-haul flights, the airport was later used exclusively by the military. Following modernization, commercial aviation flights are being reintroduced.
The President reviewed the development work completed at the airport.
A new terminal for 100 passengers has been constructed, and the runway has been renovated. Modern navigation equipment has been installed, allowing the airport to accommodate A320-200 and ATR 72-600 aircraft.
The President emphasized that the airport should now serve the people effectively and issued directives to increase the number of flights, enhance convenience, and ensure affordable pricing for services.
There are significant prospects for promoting domestic tourism and organizing international flights.
