On July 9, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received Director-General of the International Labour Organization Gilbert Houngbo, who is in our country on a working visit.
The issues of further expansion of cooperation with this authoritative UN institute were considered.
Expressing his sincere gratitude for the warm reception, the Director-General of ILO commended Uzbekistan for its achievements in ensuring workers' rights, creating jobs and implementing international conventions.
In this regard, he called his visit a manifestation of support for the ongoing effective reforms under the leadership of the Head of State of Uzbekistan.
It was emphasized that the ILO considers the experience of our country in this field as a successful model for international study and application. Uzbekistan’s election to the Organization’s Administrative Council in June this year is a recognition of this.
In recent years, interaction between Uzbekistan and the ILO has reached a qualitatively new level. With the assistance of the Organization, Uzbekistan has adopted more than 40 labour-related laws and ratified 22 international conventions.
The importance of implementing joint measures to promote the principles of social justice, including through the Global Coalition for Social Justice was noted.
Following the meeting, an agreement was reached on the development and adoption of a new Country Programme for 2026-2030.
