On June 27, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in the Jizzakh region to get acquainted with the activities of the BYD Uzbekistan Factory joint venture.
The factory was launched in January this year during the visit of the Head of our state to China. This is the first stage of a US $160 million project with a production capacity of 50 thousand electric cars per year.
The joint venture was provided with the modern industrial infrastructure. Almost 2 kilometers of railway tracks were laid. To ensure the continuity of production, a warehouse for components and a logistics centre for 1,2 thousand containers were built.
Modern equipment and robotic systems from China are installed at the plant. The production process is automated. A laboratory for high-precision testing of the geometric dimensions of electric cars is set up.
The President inspected these facilities and talked with Chinese partners.
Currently, the Chazor and Song Plus Champion models are being produced here. Shavkat Mirziyoyev left his signature on the first electric car that came off the assembly line.
Here the Head of state was also presented the information about plans to localize production. It is planned to expand the model range of the plant in the upcoming years. Within the framework of the second stage of the project worth US $300 million it is planned to increase the production up to 200 thousand electric cars per year, and within the framework of the third stage worth US $500 million - up to 500 thousand electric cars.
The plans are ambitious, and work is proceeding at an accelerated pace. As the number of electric cars increases, the level of localization will gradually increase. Primarily, the production of bumpers, windows, lacquered and plastic parts will be established. In the future, it is planned to produce batteries, electric motors, aluminum parts, tires and seats.
The innovations and highly qualified specialists are required to be competitive in this new industry. In this regard, the need to create an RnD center for training and development of personnel, support for scientific and engineering research were stressed. The measures to reduce production costs through localization projects were discussed. The goal for the future is to enter the markets of the region.
Today, the company employs 1,2 thousand people. Last year, 200 employees were trained at “UzAuto Motors” plants. This year, another 92 specialists will be trained in the Chinese cities of Xian and Changsha in the areas of quality control, technology, supply and maintenance of equipment. When all three stages are implemented, the number of jobs will reach 10 thousand.
