The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Korea Yoon Suk Yeol held a narrow-format meeting at the Kuksaroy residence.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Head of our state, warmly welcomed the guest, sincerely congratulated him on the 32th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations and the 5th anniversary of the Uzbek-Korean relations of a special strategic partnership.
During the meeting, issues of further expansion of practical cooperation in political, trade and economic, technological and other priority areas were considered.
It was noted that the Republic of Korea is among the leading trade and investment partners of Uzbekistan. Last year, trade turnover reached US $2,5 billion, and Korean investment exceeded US $7,5 billion. The tourist flow grows, Tashkent and Seoul connect 10 flights a week.
An agreement was reached to form a new partnership model to make better use of the potential and to identify and promote major high-technology cooperative projects.
The fruitful development of cultural and humanitarian exchange was highly appreciated. Four branches of leading Korean universities are successfully operating in the Republic. In turn, over 11 thousand Uzbek students study in South Korea.
The real symbols of friendship and partnership were the House of Korean Culture, the Multidisciplinary Children’s Clinic, the Seoul Garden and Seoul Street in Tashkent.
The Presidents declared the importance of further mutual support within the framework of international organizations.
There was also an exchange of views on regional cooperation, including "Central Asia - Republic of Korea".
Special attention was paid to establishing close contacts in the field of security and defense, in particular with regard to combating cybercrime, terrorism and extremism.
