The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon held a meeting at the Palace of the Nation in Dushanbe.
A particular attention was paid to deepening political dialogue, enhancing trade and economic cooperation, expanding interregional contacts and cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
The Leaders of the two countries reaffirmed their mutual desire to continue constructive cooperation within regional structures and international platforms in order to jointly promote the interests and ensure the sustainable development of Central Asia.
It was emphasized that the signing of the historic Treaty on Allied Relations symbolizes the transition to a qualitatively new stage in Uzbek-Tajik relations.
In this regard, it was underlined that the realization of the potential of allied relations requires an increase in the effectiveness of contacts at all levels.
It should be noted that in recent years the volume of trade turnover has increased by a factor of 40. The number of joint ventures has increased by 15 times.
The governments have set a goal of increasing trade to US$2 billion, including by expanding the range of mutual supplies and establishing border trade zones as soon as possible.
A business forum was successfully held on the eve of the visit, resulting in a solid portfolio of new cooperation projects and trade contracts.
These include mutually beneficial projects in the fields of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, energy, mining, agriculture, textiles and pharmaceuticals.
The parties also outlined concrete plans for the implementation of cooperation projects. The potential of the joint Investment Company will be used for this purpose.
The importance of intensifying cultural and humanitarian exchanges was emphasized. Regular film screenings, concerts, performances, exhibitions and youth forums were highlighted. The necessity of expanding cooperation in the field of education, development of accessible tourist programs was pointed out.
The Leader of our country invited President Emomali Rahmon to visit Uzbekistan at a time convenient for him.
