A year ago, on March 18, the foundations were laid for the construction of the city of New Tashkent. A Coordinating Council and a Directorate for Construction and Design Management were established.
On April 3, 2024, during the holy month of Ramadan, a ceremony was held to launch the construction of the first facilities.
President Shavkat Mirziyoyev delivered a speech at the event, highlighting the historic significance of the occasion.
- Today we are laying the foundation for the campuses of the "Yangi O‘zbekiston" University and Tashkent State Pedagogical University, the National Library, the National Theatre, the International Research Center, the Literature Museum, the Alisher Navoi Art School and the National Maqom Center. It is no coincidence that the construction of a new city begins with the abode of knowledge and spirituality. They will become the basis and a model in the formation of an enlightened society, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
If the school is the foundation of an enlightened society, the teacher is its pillar. Therefore, a new campus of the Tashkent State Pedagogical University will be built here first of all, which will include educational buildings for 20 thousand students, a dormitory for 5 thousand places, a kindergarten for 300 children, a school for 616 places, an academic lyceum for 588 places, modern sports complex, a palace of culture, an amphitheater and other facilities.
Based on the experience of the world’s top 300 universities, an innovative pedagogical cluster will be created at the university, ensuring the continuity of the "kindergarten - school - university" chain.
The University of "Yangi Uzbekiston" is one of the most prestigious universities in the country, training specialists in engineering, management, information technology, agro-technology, human and natural sciences. A modern university campus is being built in the city, including an education building for 10 thousand students, a canteen with 1150 seats, a library and a compact museum, a sports complex and an Olympic swimming pool. Dormitories for 2000 students and housing for 286 teachers and staff will also be built.
The next project is a new complex for the National Library of Uzbekistan. All conditions for proper storage of more than 10 million copies of literature and quality service for 1420 readers simultaneously will be created here. The total area will be 30 thousand square meters.
Theatre art is closely connected with people’s spirituality and education of youth. Therefore, a majestic building of the National Theatre will be built in New Tashkent based on international standards, which will provide comfort for both artists and spectators. In the future, it will become a creative laboratory for all theatres in our country.
The city will also have a unique spirituality complex, which will unite an international research center, a school of creativity, the Museum of Literature named after Alisher Navoi and the National Maqom Center. The Head of our state emphasized the opportunities and significance of these complexes.
- The institutions, the foundations of which are being laid today, will serve for many years to enrich the spirituality of our people and to educate our young people as fully developed and harmonious individuals. I believe that New Tashkent will become a real center of science, education and culture not only for our country but also for the entire region, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
The President pressed a symbolic button and launched the construction of the buildings.
