The President Shavkat Mirziyoyev was briefed about the measures being implemented to improve the environmental situation.

In recent times, environmental issues, particularly air quality, have raised concerns among the public. One of the main causes is harmful gases emitted by vehicles that do not meet environmental requirements, as well as traffic congestion. In light of this, comprehensive measures are being taken to improve the environmental conditions on the initiative of the President.

In particular, with the aim of addressing environmental problems related to harmful vehicle emissions, the registration and examination department of the road traffic safety management in the Fayzabad Mahalla of the Mirabad district in the capital city of Tashkent has been transformed into a modern diagnostic center, operating on an entirely new methodology.

Today, the Head of State was briefed about the center’s activities.

In organizing the center’s work, advanced practices in environmental protection from developed countries such as Germany, Belgium, and France have been taken into account.

Here, the process of issuing state license plates and vehicle registration certificates is freed from various bureaucratic obstacles and unnecessary complexities, with minimized human involvement. Previously, the vehicle registration process involved six to seven stages, but now the number of stages has been reduced to three.

Most importantly, the center now checks the quantity of harmful substances emitted by vehicles, and based on the results of the environmental inspection, a sticker of red, yellow, or green color with an RFID chip is affixed to the vehicle’s windshield.

In the future, based on the current environmental situation, the city’s territory will be divided into several environmental zones. It is proposed to gradually restrict entry into these environmental zones according to the level of pollutants emitted by vehicles, indicated by the color of their stickers. Access to the environmental zones for vehicles without permission will be controlled in an automated mode. Fines collected for violations will be directed towards financing measures to improve the environmental situation.

For the full functioning of the system, the installation of approximately 100 automatic air monitoring stations throughout the country is planned, as well as the equipping of 84 registration and diagnostic centers and 216 district branches of the Road Traffic Safety Service with modern diagnostic equipment.

In turn, practical measures will be taken to stimulate the population’s acquisition of electric vehicles, including reducing the fee for issuing state license plates for this category of vehicles.
