“Yangi Hayot” Mahalla to Become an Example for the Country

16.02.2024

On February 16, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev arrived in Khanabad, Andijan region to get acquainted with the population's life.

Khanabad is the easternmost city of our country. Because of its location on the border, it had a special permit regime. As a result of the changes of recent years and the policy of good neighbourliness Khanabad has opened, its economy has improved significantly, and the living standards of the population have begun to rise. Today, tourism, industry, vegetable growing and the service sector are developed there.

The representatives of “Yangi Hayot” Mahalla told the Head of state about the living conditions of the people.

More than 3,5 thousand people live here. There are nursery schools, schools and colleges with conditions for quality education. Residents work in mountain recreation areas, industrial enterprises and private farms.

In addition, there are more than 10 guest houses, about 20 shops, hairdressers, and service centres. Last year more than 100 unemployed residents of the mahalla were employed for regular and seasonal jobs. Another 181 citizens became self-employed.

According to the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan of December 12, 2023, the role of the Mahalla Institution in society and in solving the problems of the population as a primary link was strengthened. A “Mahalla Seven” has been established, including a mahalla chairman, an assistant of Hokim, a women's activist, a youth leader, a prevention inspector, a tax officer and a social worker.

The Head of state spoke with the representatives of this system.

- From the first day we started a dialogue with the people, we strive to make the people happy. Therefore, we are developing the Mahalla system as the primary link. Mahalla is the foundation of civil society. It is the voice of the population. Representatives of the state in mahalla, using powers and means provided, should change their outlook and respond to people’s requests. I believe that “Yangi Hayot” will become an example for Uzbekistan, - Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.

The President also inspected the mahalla, trade and service points.
