The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the Amir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani, who is on a working visit to our country.
At the beginning of the meeting, the Uzbek Leader congratulated the Amir and the friendly people of Qatar on the occasion of Independence Day.
The Amir of Qatar, in turn, thanked the Leader of our country for the high level of organization of the International Anti-Corruption Excellence Award ceremony in Tashkent and for the warm hospitality.
The issues of further strengthening of political dialogue, expansion of trade, economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries were discussed.
The continuing intensive contacts and exchanges at all levels were noted with satisfaction. This year, the two countries established diplomatic missions in the cities of Tashkent and Doha. Mutual trade is growing and the implementation of major projects involving leading Qatari companies has begun.
Special emphasis has been placed on promoting new joint investment projects, particularly in the fields of green energy, industry, agriculture, infrastructure development, banking and finance, education, health and tourism.
Possibilities for further developing cooperation in the field of transport and logistics were discussed. In particular, the Qatari side expressed its full support for the construction of the Trans-Afghan Railway.
The sides stressed the importance of holding the first meetings of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission, the Business Council and the Economic Forum in Doha in February 2024.
The sides also discussed the issues of holding cultural and humanitarian events next year.
In order to ensure timely implementation of the agreements, the leaders of Uzbekistan and Qatar agreed to establish a coordination council at the level of the heads of the foreign ministries of the two countries.
The initiative of our Leader to establish a regional anti-corruption centre in Uzbekistan under the auspices of the United Nations was supported.
The sides also exchanged views on current issues on the international and regional agenda.
