On November 24, as part of the programme of his working visit to Baku, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held talks with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev.
The Azerbaijani leader expressed his sincere gratitude to the President of Uzbekistan for his support and personal participation in the First Summit of the UN Special Programme for the Economies of Central Asia (SPECA).
The President of Uzbekistan, in turn, congratulated the President of Azerbaijan on his successful chairmanship of SPECA.
The sides discussed issues of further strengthening of Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations of friendship and strategic partnership, including implementation of agreements reached at the highest level.
It was noted with satisfaction that thanks to systematic and productive contacts, Uzbek-Azerbaijani relations have reached a qualitatively new level, enriched with concrete content.
Trade turnover has increased by 34% since the beginning of the year. Cooperation projects are being implemented in the automotive, electrical, textile, energy, agricultural and silk sectors. Potential projects in transport and logistics are being prepared.
The two leaders also exchanged views on new areas of mutually beneficial cooperation. The sides reviewed the progress of promising projects in the chemical, energy, jewellery, engineering, construction and other sectors.
The sides stressed the importance of further developing cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
Following the meeting, the Uzbek President invited the President of Azerbaijan to pay an official visit to Uzbekistan at his own convenience.
