On September 18, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the President of the European Council Charles Michel at the residence reserved for him.
The issues of further expansion of Uzbek-European multifaceted cooperation, primarily in political, trade, economic, investment and humanitarian spheres were considered.
The current top-level of bilateral relations was welcomed. The visit of the Head of the European Council to Uzbekistan, EU-Central Asia Summit, and the International Conference on Connectivity and economic forums were successfully held.
Since the beginning of the year, Uzbekistan’s trade turnover with EU countries has increased by 35%, large investment projects are being implemented with leading European companies, and significant cultural events are being held.
During the meeting, the sides discussed the issues of early adoption of the Agreement on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation, formation of favorable conditions for increasing the volume of mutual trade and investments, as well as deepening cooperation in the main sectors of the economy, including by concluding bilateral documents on a long-term basis.
The President of the European Council Charles Michel emphasized the leading role of the Leader of Uzbekistan in promoting regional cooperation, strengthening relations of trust, good neighborliness and partnerships in Central Asia.
Special attention was paid to the development of effective international transport corridors, in particular the Trans-Caspian multimodal route.
An exchange of views also took place on the emerging situation in Afghanistan, including efforts to provide humanitarian assistance to the Afghan people.
