On August 18, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a UN delegation headed by the Assistant Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs of this prestigious global institution, Miroslav Jenča.
The issues of further expansion of multifaceted cooperation with UN institutions and centers within the framework of implementing long-term Sustainable Development Goals were discussed.
At the outset of the meeting, the high-ranking representative Miroslav Jenča conveyed to the Head of our State the sincere greetings and best wishes of the Secretary-General of the organization, António Guterres. It was stressed that the UN structures are ready to continue to fully support the program of irreversible reforms for the construction of a New Uzbekistan.
It should be noted that in recent years, the mutually beneficial cooperation between our country and the UN has reached an unprecedented high level. Around 140 programs and projects are being jointly implemented. On the initiative of the Uzbek side, six resolutions of the UN General Assembly have been adopted.
Uzbekistan actively participates in the activities of the Human Rights Council, the Economic and Social Council Commission, the UNESCO Cultural Heritage Committee and many other structures.
In the second half of this year alone, our country will host a number of significant international events within the framework of the UN, in particular the FAO Conference on Food Security and the 25th anniversary session of the General Assembly of the World Tourism Organization.
In the course of the meeting, the prospects for practical cooperation in the implementation of national tasks and goals in the field of sustainable development were considered.
A particular attention was paid to the issues of deepening good neighborliness and partnership relations in Central Asia and strengthening the role of the UN Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy in this process.
