On July 12, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Secretary-General of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Zurab Pololikashvili, who is on a working visit to Uzbekistan.

The issues of further promotion of comprehensive cooperation with the leading industry organization of the UN system in the development of modern tourism infrastructure and enhancement of tourist destinations in Uzbekistan were discussed.

The UNWTO Secretary-General, on behalf of the structures and institutions of the United Nations system, warmly congratulated the President of Uzbekistan on his convincing victory in the presidential elections and sincerely wished him prosperity and great success.

A particular attention was paid to the preparation and holding of the most important international event of the tourism industry this year – the 25th anniversary session of the UNWTO General Assembly in Samarkand in October.

The importance of strengthening practical interaction in attracting leading investors – well-known foreign companies and brands to implement projects for the creation of modern and comfortable tourism infrastructure in Uzbekistan was noted.

Joint activities will be carried out in the field of international image promotion, education, and training of highly qualified specialists, including the establishment of the International Academy and the UNWTO Thematic Office in Uzbekistan.
