The Аmir of the State of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, together with the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, toured the magnificent architectural monuments of the ancient and beautiful city of Samarkand.
The Heads of state first visited the Observatory and Museum of Mirzo Ulugbek. A great scientist-astronomer and ruler Muhammad Taragay Mirzo Ulugbek made a great contribution to the development of science and culture. He built an observatory, unique in the Middle Ages, where he studied celestial bodies with great accuracy. His «New Astronomical Tables Kuragoni» served as a manual of astronomical science for a long time.
In the course of acquaintance, it was noted that during the Temurid period there was a flourishing of science, culture, and architecture; this period went down in history as the second Renaissance of our state. It was pointed out that today many centers have been organized for the study of Islamic civilization and the heritage of the ancestors.
In addition, the Leaders visited the museum «Afrasiab», where unique exhibits and murals show the three-thousand-year history of the great Samarkand. One of the murals depicts the ceremony of the reception of ambassadors by a ruler of Afrasiab, which testifies to the great attention paid by our ancestors to diplomacy and relations with the peoples of the East that date back to the past.
The world-famous Registan ensemble is another of our country’s calling cards, reflecting the creative potential of our ancestors. The magnificent madrasahs - Mirzo Ulugbek, Sherdor, and Tillakori - impress everyone with their size and amazing architecture.
During the visit, the distinguished guest was told about the history of the construction, the peculiarities of the ornaments of this facility, and the restoration works carried out on its square. The Emir of Qatar got acquainted with the madrasah with genuine admiration.
Later, the Heads of state paid a visit to the «Eternal City» Complex at the International Tourist Center of Samarkand.
