The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the presentation on the status of renewable energy introduction at the social sphere institutions and state agencies.
According to the Decree of the President of Uzbekistan from February 16 of this year, a program to accelerate the introduction of renewable energy sources has been adopted. It envisages the installation of solar panels with 220 megawatts capacity, this year, in the social sphere and state institutions.
At the meeting, the officials reported on the work progress in this direction.
It was noted that, currently, the solar panels with a total capacity of 107 megawatts have been installed. Large public companies are carrying out these activities rapidly; however, the work in the social institutions is slow.
For instance, only 36% of the total planned number of panels for university buildings, 33% for school buildings, and 28% for medical institutions have been installed. The overall figure for the country has reached almost 50%. Yet, the introduction of renewable energy sources in the city of Tashkent is 26% of the planned.
The President emphasized that many opportunities are unused and tasked to accelerate the work.
This year, it is planned to put into operation solar and wind power stations with 2 thousand megawatts of capacity. In addition, within the framework of the recent state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to the People’s Republic of China, agreements on construction of 11 solar and wind power stations with a total capacity of 4.8 megawatts worth $4.4 billion were reached.
The issues of organizing the execution of these agreements were also discussed at the meeting.
