A festive event on the occasion of March 8 – International Women’s Day took place at the International Congress Center.
The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the event and delivered a congratulatory speech.
«Today, each of us expresses inspiring words of deep gratitude to the loving women who are the greatest creations of the Almighty - our caring mothers, dear sisters, lovely daughters. For us, you above all are the epitome of selflessness. We owe you an incalculable debt, to your kindness and devotion, love and profound wisdom», the President has said.
Indeed, women have a particular place in all spheres of society. Today, women account for 77% working in healthcare, 74% in education, 46% in economy and industry. Around 2,000 women occupy leadership positions in state and public organisations.
Back in 2017, only 27% of women worked in management, now it has reached 33%, in political parties their number has risen from 40 to 47%, and in business from 21 to 37%.
The highest State Award - the Hero of Uzbekistan has been given to 17 women for their services to the homeland and the people. There are 5 academics, over 700 doctors of science and 3,000 candidates of science in institutions of higher education. Many women have been awarded honorary titles.
The improvement of living and working conditions of women is a priority in our country. To this end, more than 872 thousand women have been employed last year. More than 25 thousand women have been taught business skills and professions in demand on the labour.
Last year, 14 thousand women’s housing conditions were improved and 642 thousand women received practical assistance under the «Women’s Notebook» system.
Considering the issue of providing girls with quality education, the President cited the words of the outstanding enlightener Abdurauf Fitrat – «Immeasurable is the merit of mothers in educating all mankind».
The consistent efforts have been made in recent years to increase women’s access to higher education. When 6 years ago only 110 thousand girls studied in higher educational institutions, today the number has reached 500 thousand.
According to the new procedure, the State paid the tuition contracts - more than 68 billion Uzbek soums for 10 thousand girls who are pursuing their master decrees. More than 65 thousand female students have received interest-free education loans totaling nearly 727 billion Uzbek soums. Around 2 thousand girls from families in need, as well as over 500 women with five years of work experience have enrolled to higher educational institutions on the basis of a separate quota.
“Whatever laws and decisions we make in Uzbekistan, whatever reforms we undertake, as President I think first of all about you, our kind mothers and caring sisters, about the problems you are concerned with. The serving with an aim, doing everything needed, so that you could live with your families, in peace and prosperity, be healthy and happy, and take an active part in public life, I consider as my most important duty and task. After all, if our dear mothers, women - the backbone of family and society are satisfied with their lives, then our entire nation shall be satisfied, then the Almighty God shall bless us», Shavkat Mirziyoyev has said.
In accordance with Decree and Resolution of the President of Uzbekistan of March 6, a group of women have been awarded honorary titles, orders and medals, and 28 girls were presented with the Zulfiya State Prize.
These awards were presented at the festive event.
Women from all over the country, staff of various ministries and departments marked the event around a generous table.
Women diplomats representing foreign countries and international organisations in Uzbekistan also took part in the event.
The celebration concluded with a colourful concert.
