The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev upon his arrival in Baku.
The Azerbaijani Leader expressed his sincere gratitude to the Uzbek President for his support and personal attendance at the Non-Aligned Movement Summit to be held tomorrow, on March 2, in the country’s capital.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in turn, praised Azerbaijan’s effective presidency in this structure.
The Presidents have thoroughly considered the implementation of agreements reached at the top level. The sides noted with deep satisfaction that the systematic and productive contacts have brought the Uzbek-Azerbaijani strategic partnership relations to a qualitatively new level, enriched with concrete content.
The trade turnover has grown by more than 50% last year. Active cooperation projects are underway in such top-priority spheres as automotive, textile and silk industries. The prospective projects in the oil and gas, transport and logistics sectors are being developed.
As part of the first Forum of Regions, held in Tashkent this February, an Agreement on establishment of a Joint Investment Fund was signed.
An interest in the exchange of experiences in the development of free economic zones and tax administration system was noted.
The sides underscored the importance of further expansion of cultural and humanitarian exchanges.
The Presidents discussed current international and regional issues and reviewed the schedule of upcoming events.
The meeting was held in a traditionally open, warm and friendly atmosphere.
