On February 21, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held negotiations at Al Ittihadiya Palace in Cairo.
The Leaders discussed in detail the further enhancement of Uzbek-Egyptian cooperation and agreed to advance the relations to the level of comprehensive partnership.
A cardinal extension of interaction in politics, security, trade and industrial cooperation, as well as building up cultural, humanitarian and educational ties have been the key topics of talks.
The Presidents noted the community of reforms underway within the framework of Egypt’s «Vision 2030» strategic plan and the New Uzbekistan Development Strategy.
The President congratulated the Egyptian President on the successful organization of international summit on climate change COP 27.
During the talks, the leaders have noted with delight the dynamic development of bilateral relations, intensification of a broad political dialogue, mutual support within international organizations like the UN, OIC, SCO and Non-Aligned Movement, and intensification of inter-parliamentary ties.
The two sides expressed interest in sharing experience in fighting corruption, countering contemporary challenges and threats to security, and mutual support for international initiatives toward stabilization and reconstruction of Afghanistan.
Special attention was paid to trade and economic and investment cooperation. Presidents of Uzbekistan and Egypt highly appreciated the outcomes of Uzbek-Egyptian business events held on the eve of the visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
Agreements have been reached on creating a favorable conditions for mutual investments. Given the complementary nature of the two countries’ economies, five specific areas of cooperation in gas chemicals, textiles, electrical engineering, jewelry and pharmaceuticals have been identified.
It has been proposed to use opportunities of free economic zones in Uzbekistan to bolster industrial cooperation and establish highly profitable joint ventures.
Separately, the sides discussed prospects of joint projects in the energy sector, as well as measures for developing transport routes linking Uzbekistan and Egypt.
The sides underscored the importance of developing cultural, humanitarian and religious ties. An agreement has been reached to boost cooperation in training specialists in the Arabic language. The President of Uzbekistan proposed to jointly organize a Global Forum of Arabists in 2024.
There was an exchange of views on topical international and regional issues.
The meeting was held in an open, warm and friendly atmosphere. At the end of the meeting, Shavkat Mirziyoyev invited Abdel Fattah El-Sisi to visit Uzbekistan.
