On June 17, 2021, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev launched the construction of the New Andijan town in the hilly area of Andijan district. Currently, high-rise buildings, schools and kindergartens are being built here.

On February 1, a meeting was held in the township under construction to discuss the expanded use of renewable energy sources and employment opportunities.

As the economy develops and the population grows, the need for electricity increases. Over the last five years, there have been more than 1 million 200 thousand households in our country, while the number of enterprises has reached 260 thousand. Thus, the electricity consumption has increased by 35 %. In particular, the electricity demand in Andijan, Ferghana and Namangan regions has increased by 40 %.

«In such conditions, the most appropriate solution is to increase the use of renewable energy sources», Shavkat Mirziyoyev has said.

In this regard, the meeting focused on project implementation for the construction of solar and wind power plants.

It is planned to build 2 photovoltaic stations with a capacity of 600 megawatts in the Pape and Ferghana districts this year. There is an opportunity to build 41 micro HPPs in Andijan, 32 ones in Namangan and 27 ones in Ferghana.

The President has also stressed that it is necessary to use renewable energy sources at large enterprises and to transfer them to self-sufficiency in electricity in general.

A special energy company will be created to introduce solar energy at social facilities, which will be allocated $200 million. The company will install solar panels, water heaters and will sell the generated "green" energy to the budget institution. Besides, the need to replace 3 thousand old boilers in social facilities with modern equipment was mentioned.

The measures to save energy resources have been identified. The task to create an attractive system of solar energy for the population was set.

The second issue on the agenda was poverty reduction and public employment.

Actually, 235 investment projects worth 800 million dollars and employing 40 thousand people will be completed this year in the region. On 10 thousand hectares allocated for the population 75 thousand permanent and 200 thousand seasonal jobs will be created.

The tasks on professional training of the unemployed, improvement of the social and business infrastructure of the makhallas (local neighborhood community areas).
