Abdumavlon Abdullaevich Abdullaev
The science of Uzbekistan has suffered a heavy loss.
On December 8, 2022, Abdumavlon Abdullaevich Abdullaev, an outstanding geneticist of Uzbekistan, academician of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, passed away at the age of 92.
A. Abdullayev was born on July 13, 1930 in Namangan Region. After graduating from the Central Asian State University in 1952, he began his career as a junior researcher at the Central Asian Experimental Station of the Research Institute of Plant Growing. In 1961 he defended his Ph.D., in 1973 - his doctoral dissertation. In 1995 he was elected a full member of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The talented scientist worked selflessly at the Academy of Sciences for almost 70 years of scientific activity. Implementing effective activities as a junior, senior researcher, head of the laboratory and director of the Institute of Genetics and Experimental Plant Biology, chairman of the Department of Agricultural Sciences of the Presidium of the Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Uzbekistan, then working as a senior researcher at the institute until the last days of his life, he has made a worthy contribution to the development of science.
A. Abdullayev played a colossal role in the development of the fundamental basics of cotton genetics. The scientific school created by the scientist provided the basis for the invention of a number of new varieties of cotton and presented a great opportunity for the use of its wild varieties as useful donors in the genetic selection of this crop. He was one of the founders of the cotton gene collection, which is a fundamental basis for the development of domestic cotton science and a national treasure of our country.
The scientist wrote more than 600 scientific papers, including over 10 monographs. More than 300 of his scientific articles have been published in the prestigious international journals.
Under the direct supervision of A. Abdullayev, besides the scientific work, actively involved in training the young generation of scientists, more than 20 doctors of science and about 40 candidates of science were trained.
The merits of Academician A. Abdullayev in the development of science in our country have been worthily appreciated by the state. He was awarded the title of «Honored Scientist of Uzbekistan» (1980), he was awarded the Order «Mekhnat Shukhrati» (Glory of Labor) (2003) and the State Prize of the Republic of Uzbekistan (2011).
The memory of the outstanding scientist, caring mentor, modest man Abdumavlon Abdullayev will forever remain in our hearts.
