On November 9, the ceremony of laying the foundation stone to the Olympic town facilities took place in Tashkent. The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev attended the ceremony.
At the beginning of the speech, the President congratulated everyone on this historical event and noted the importance of the projects.
«We have our own path, our own aspirations and plans. We believe that the historical work that we are starting today will yield great results. This confidence gives us strength» Shavkat Mirziyoyev has said.
Large-scale work is being carried out in our country to popularize sports and support athletes. Over the past five years, almost 4 trillion Uzbek soums have been allocated to this area, 118 large facilities have been put into operation and 110 have been reconstructed.
Thanks to the attention paid and the conditions created, our athletes have won more than a thousand medals at various international competitions this year. In particular, our team won first place at the Chess Olympiad, held in Chennai, India. Our representatives took second place in the overall standings, having won 158 medals at the Islamic Solidarity Games in Konya (Turkey).
Due to such results and world recognition, Uzbekistan is entrusted with holding prestigious international tournaments. In 2021, the World Weightlifting Championship was held in Tashkent at a high level, and this year - the World Judo Championship. Our country will host the World Boxing Championship and many continental tournaments next year.
The most high-profile and large-scale of the upcoming events are the Asian Games and the Asian Youth Para-Games among the youth, which will be held in Tashkent in 2025. The youth from 45 countries of our continent will compete in almost 20 sports.
It should be noted that such a prestigious international event is held for the first time in the history of Uzbekistan. In order to ensure high organization, a project for the construction of a modern Olympic Town was developed. The President got acquainted with this project several times and gave the instructions on it. Taking into account these recommendations, the project was finalized together with the main designer - the Chinese company CAMC Engineering.
«I am confident that the Olympic Town will become a symbol of the high creative potential of our people and the unprecedented achievements of Uzbek sports. This facility will be a modern complex with breakthrough architecture, energy efficient and incorporating the most advanced innovative solutions», Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
The cost of the project is more than $289 million. The area of the town will be 100 hectares. A track and field and football stadium for 10,000 seats, 6 indoor and 7 outdoor sports facilities, a water sports palace, a cycle track, martial arts and team sports complexes will be built here.
«If we look at our glorious history, we will see that our ancestors built magnificent buildings for future generations. We continue the noble traditions of our ancestors and are doing great creative work in our country. Certainly, such large-scale projects are born through the joint efforts of many people and with the active participation of our hardworking people», the President said.
It should be noted that after the complex will not be empty after the competition. Later, the Ministry of Sports Development, sports federations and the State Sports Academy of Uzbekistan will be located here. The complexes will be available to compatriots for sports.
The event was attended by famous athletes, heads of federations, veterans of the sphere, representatives of state and public organizations.

«Many projects are being implemented in all spheres of life in our country, more and more facilities are being built. All this is based on the great work of our great people, their confidence in the future. God willing, there will be even more such projects», the President said.
Director General of the Olympic Council of Asia Hussein al-Musallam, President of the Asian Paralympic Committee Majid Rashid, Director General of CAMC Engineering Li Haixin, Chairman of the Council of Veterans of Sports Organizations of Uzbekistan Bahodir Makhsitov and athletes participated in the ceremony, as well as they shared their views on the conditions and the important role of the future town.
