During the visit by the President to the Center for Children’s Haematology, Oncology and Clinical Immunology the videoconferencing took place on the protection of motherhood and childhood.
There are almost 20 million of children and women of reproductive age in Uzbekistan. With a view of strengthening care after their health, the children’s divisions were established this year at multi-field hospitals of all districts and towns. The emergency care and children’s intensive care stations, which operate round the clock, have been recovered.
The maternity houses and perinatal centers, and the women’s advisory rooms annually render qualified medical assistance to 850 thousand pregnant women. At all central polyclinics the oncology supervision rooms are established. There is an annual health examination of women of over 35 years of age. This has increased the chances of early cancer detection among women to 10 times.
As a result of this work, the intensive maternal mortality rate came down from 21 to 15, and the child mortality rate – from 11 down to 8 for over the past six years. However, even such a situation is a big tragedy to our society.
In this context, the issues of strengthening maternity and childhood health, as well as prevention of diseases were discussed at the meeting.
At present, only 16 hospitals in the country render a specialized assistance at abnormal pregnancy. Therefore, it was underscored that 46 district and municipal maternity houses shall be transformed into inter-district perinatal centers.
For each of the 17 thousand medical brigades established at polyclinics the qualified midwives were trained and instructed.
This year 15 maternity houses in Tashkent have started to examine the hearing abilities among the newborns. It was set to train specialists, procure a special equipment and starting from next year – introduce this practice at all maternity houses.
At present, the Reproductive Health Center takes care after a health of the reproductive-age women, a Screening Center – diagnosing fetus deficiencies, the Center for Midwifery and Gynecology – the child-bearing problems.
Due to the lack of close interactions between the regional departments of these Centers, the quality and quickness of assistance to women suffer.
In this regard, the need was underscored as to bring together these three institutions. The new center shall specialize on such important tasks as addressing the medical-biological problems of reproductive health based on innovative technologies, undertaking genetic research in terms of prevention of inborn development deficiencies and ensuring safe motherhood.
The responsible officials of the sphere, doctors, khokims (governors and mayors) took a floor at the meeting. They have reported, offered their views and proposals. It was set that the khokims of the regions shall inform the population about the forthcoming measures in terms of development the oncology and haematology services, protection of motherhood and childhood in their regions.
