President Shavkat Mirziyoyev and President Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited the Ichan-Kala complex in Khiva.
As it is well-known, both Presidents have a great interest in and respect for history. During his visit to Turkey, the President of Uzbekistan visited the Topkapi Palace in Istanbul. Recep Tayyip Erdogan visited Bukhara previously.
Ichan-Kala is the only city monument preserved in Central Asia. Therefore, it is recognized as «an open-air museum». There are more than 120 architectural monuments here.
Khiva was enlisted in the UNESCO World Heritage List on December 12, 1990. The city celebrated its 2500th anniversary in 1997.
During this long history, Khiva was the center of many Turkic states. The TURKSOY International Organization declared Khiva the cultural capital of the Turkic world in 2020.
In this context, the visit of the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkey to the ancient city is of a particular importance.
The guests toured the Western Gate, the Kalta Minor minaret, the old Kunya-Ark citadel and madrassah, craft workshops, the mausoleum of Pakhlavan-Makhmud and the Friday Mosque.
The Presidents have had sincere conversations with artisans and tourists. The Khorezm songs and dances created a festive atmosphere.
The history and role of Khiva in the development of statehood and science, the ancient monuments and the art of the city have made a great impression on the Turkish guests.
