On March 9, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with the project of the second phase of construction the new town «New Namangan».

The city of Namangan demonstrates both the economic and demographic growth. In recent years, the area of the city has expended by 3.6 thousand hectares. Over the past five years, its population has risen to 152 thousand people. During this period, around 300 apartment buildings were constructed and over 65 thousand people purchased the apartments.

In particular, throughout an area of 330 hectares, 184 houses with 8.5 thousand apartments were built as part of the first stage of the «New Namangan» project. In addition, 145 hectares of small industrial zones have been established and created 10.000 additional jobs.

Today, 30 thousand people need housing. In the following years, the city’s population is expected to increase by 25,000 people annually.

In his pre-electoral program, Shavkat Mirziyoyev defined the plans of turning Namangan into a million-plus city and expanding the project «New Namangan».

Today at the presentation, the general plan of the second phase of the project was discussed. It includes constructing 171 new buildings with 20 thousand apartments on an area of 272 hectares of land. 

The President has inquired about the infrastructure of the town and paid attention to the quality of the houses. The officials in charge were instructed to meet with the residents of apartments and with people in need of housing, study their proposals, and on this basis critically review and thoroughly refine the project.

The importance of rational placement of residential development and plumbing systems, as well as the use of national architectural traditions in ornamental and finishing works was emphasized.

The instructions were issued in terms of the creation of jobs and the development of the services sector of the town.

The project also provides for the creation of the park «New Uzbekistan».

The President has emphasized the need to immediately prepare the tree seedlings for the park and carry out landscaping in the territory of residential areas and along the roads.

In Namangan Region, a special emphasis is put on strengthening the infrastructure of small industrial zones, repairing local roads, and expanding potable water networks. The officials in charge are tasked to organize the work of khokim’s (governor or mayor) assistances, the youth leaders and activists, to build at makhallas the sports grounds and consumer service facilities.
