On March 4, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev met with President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan Arif Alvi in Islamabad.
The Presidents warmly greeted each other and expressed satisfaction with the comprehensive development of strategic partnership relations between two countries.
The historical significance of the current state visit of the President of Uzbekistan to Pakistan, which will give a new powerful impetus to further enhance the cooperation, was emphasized.
In 2022, our states will celebrate a significant date – the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. Over the recent years, a high level of political dialogue and cooperation has been achieved.
There is a steady growth of mutual trade turnover. Last year, despite the pandemic, it grew by more than 50 percent.
The relevant issues of consistent expansion of trade, economic and investment ties were discussed.
The Presidents welcomed the agreements reached during the state visit to Pakistan. At the same time, there is a huge potential for increasing cooperation. In particular, in the humanitarian field.
The President of our country drew attention to the consonance of the initiatives of Uzbekistan and Pakistan in the field of science, education, high technologies and youth policy with the goals of our country to create the foundation for the Third Renaissance.
The readiness to comprehensively develop this area of partnership was confirmed. The President of Uzbekistan proposed using the platform of the Standing Committee on Scientific and Technical Cooperation of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation "COMSTECH" for regular scientific and practical events on astronomy, astrophysics, physics, mathematics, virology and robotics.
The sides also exchanged views on the issues of regional and international agenda of mutual interest. The special emphasis is placed to the aspects of regional security and the situation in Afghanistan.
Shavkat Mirziyoyev expressed his gratitude to Arif Alvi for the warm welcome, expressed sincere congratulations and best wishes on the forthcoming national holiday – Pakistan Day and invited him to visit our country at his convenience.
The meeting was held in a warm and friendly spirit. The parties reaffirmed their commitment to further enhancing the multifaceted relations.
