The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with khokims (governors) and heads of sectors following his visit to the Samarkand region.

The issues of socio-economic development of cities and districts were critically addressed at the meeting. It was underscored that the actions of individual khokims revealed signs of corruption and nepotism. Some heads have ignored the problems worrying the population. A potable water, heat and electricity supply was not ensured despite the allocation of necessary funds.

Misuse of subsidies for introduction of water saving technologies was observed. The share of non-performing loans in the region's banks has increased. The cases of embezzlement of funds meant for soft loans have been detected. The number of traffic accidents and crimes has increased.

The khokims of the two districts and a number of heads of territorial agencies were dismissed for irresponsible attitude to their official duties, serious shortcomings and mistakes in their work. The instructions were given to eliminate the shortcomings and improve the well-being of makhallas.

«We have set ourselves very high goals and people are waiting for us to achieve practical results. Today, I have dismissed ten heads from their jobs. From now on, the demand for heads who do not work will be very tough. Everyone must learn a lesson», said President at the end of the meeting.

That has concluded the trip of the President to Samarkand Region. Afterwards, he has returned to Tashkent.
