On January 31 President Shavkat Mirziyoyev reviewed a presentation of the projects to be implemented in the city of Tashkent.
Initially, the information about the study on the living standards in terms of makhallas (the local neighborhood community areas) in the capital city was presented.
The Human Development Index, which assesses such indicators as quality of life, education and life expectancy of the population, is widely used in the world. The index is noteworthy because it is in line with the idea put forward by the President «In the name of human honor and dignity».
Therefore, a proposal was prepared to introduce a Human Dignity Index in the city of Tashkent. For this purpose, one makhalla from Chilanzar, Uchtepa, Sergeli and Yunusabad districts was selected, and the population was surveyed on 56 questions. Thus, it was determined which areas require the most attention and what the residents feel the need for.
During the presentation, it was suggested to involve all makhallas of our capital in this study and strengthen the work in a certain direction based on its results.
«What will be the criteria for this? What will be achieved in six months or by the end of the year? Therefore, a scientifically-based system is needed. It is necessary to create an analytical center in the Tashkent city Khokimiyat (mayor’s office) by the type of a Situation Center, to develop a program product. It is not easy to work in the context of makhallas, we take on a great responsibility. This system must demonstrate which makhalla, which street requires a primary focus. All measures should be based on the public opinion, be implemented after the approval of the local Kengashes (councils) in an organized manner», Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
It was recommended to discuss the draft index with experts, develop it comprehensively, and train sector executives to work with it. It was emphasized that this will encourage them to change the style of work.
The investment and export issues were also discussed at the presentation.
In particular, $3.8 billion worth of investments, including $2 billion of direct foreign investments, will be invested in 738 projects in Tashkent this year. This year, 500 projects will be launched and 27,000 new jobs will be created.
The President was informed about the forthcoming measures in terms of drafting the investment projects at the makhallas and the objectives in this sphere in 2022-2026.
The President has noted that the city of Tashkent has extensive financial and economic opportunities. Thus, by increasing the number of regional projects it is possible to attract an additional $100 million to each district.
The growth points were also indicated in the sphere of foreign trade. In particular, this year the exports of Tashkent are expected to reach $1.4 billion and by 2026 the figure is planned to reach $2.5 billion.
The instruction is given to meet the demand of the domestic market and increase exports by attracting major international brands.
By means of videoconferencing, a dialogue was held with district khokims and the heads of sectors on the work at makhallas.
