On January 30 President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has laid a wreath at the monument to the First President at the Islam Karimov Scientific and Enlightenment Memorial Complex.

A nation that honors the memory of their ancestors and outstanding sons is always worthy of respect. Unfortunately, there were cases in our history when the leaders of a nation were glorified during their lifetime and vilified after their death.

From his first day in office, Shavkat Mirziyoyev declared that Islam Karimov’s good deeds would continue and made decisions to perpetuate his memory. A mausoleum of the First President was built. It has become a tradition to hold commemorative events on his birthday on January 30.

As Shavkat Mirziyoyev has noted, the more we honor the personality and merits of Islam Karimov, the stronger the spirituality of our people and the youth.

Today’s event became the embodiment of this truth. The Surahs (verses) from the Holy Quran were recited. A reference was made to the deeds of Islam Karimov for the sake and benefit of our people, his high human qualities – a courage, justice and modesty.

The representatives of the Oliy Majlis (the National Parliament) Chambers, the Presidential Administration and the Government, figures of science and culture, intellectuals and the public attended the ceremony.

A wreath-laying ceremony was also held at the statues of Islam Karimov in cities of Samarkand and Karshi.
