On January 31, 2020, the President laid a capsule in the foundation of the University of Geological Sciences.
In recent years, the large investments have been made in the field of geology, the most advanced technologies have been introduced. Both verified and projected mineral reserves have increased. Therefore, these days the qualified specialists are required to develop these resources and produce the value-added products from them.
Therefore, last year, at the initiative of the President, the University of Geological Sciences was established at the State Committee for Geology and Mineral Resources. During this visit, the President got acquainted with the conditions created at the new university.
«The importance of geology for the economy cannot be overestimated. In recent years, we have been paying attention to the revival of scientific schools, training of personnel, creating the best conditions by introducing the most advanced scientific methods and laboratory equipment. Now it is necessary to work for the result», - Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
Currently, more than 700 students are studying at the university in seven undergraduate specialties and six master’s areas. It is expected to expand these areas and specialties in accordance with the needs of the industry.
In addition, a part-time education is open for employees in the field of geology with more than 5 years of work experience.
The President talked with students and faculty of the university.
At the first stage of the project, there was built an educational building, a hostel and two scientific institutions, a library, a laboratory and a museum of geology.
At the second stage, it is set to build a seven-storey laboratory, a five-storey administrative building of the State Committee for Geology, a seven-storey geological fund, the building of «Uzbek Geology Qidiruv» JSC and a sports complex.
The President gave relevant instructions for the qualitative completion of construction.
The university includes the Kh.Abdullayev Institute of Geology and Geophysics, the Institute of Mineral Resources, the Institute of Hydrogeology and Engineering Geology, the Institute of Geology and Exploration of Oil and Gas Fields, the Institute for Advanced Studies and Retraining of Personnel in Geology, the Center for Geoinnovative Technologies and the State Museum of Geology.
