On October 24, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, candidate for presidency from the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People - the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, arrived at the polling station №59 of the Mirzo-Ulugbek District of Tashkent together with his family members and voted at the elections.
To elect and be elected is one of the basic political rights of citizens. The Constitution of the Republic of Uzbekistan guarantees suffrage, equality and freedom of expression.
Over the past five years, the national electoral legislation has been improved, the electoral practice has reached a qualitatively new level. This year, for the first time the Presidential elections are held based on the Electoral Code adopted on June 25, 2019.
The Central Election Commission established 14 electoral districts and 10,761 polling stations for holding presidential elections.
Five political parties operating in the country are taking part in the elections in equal conditions created for them.
The pre-election processes took place in the conditions of further deepening of democratic transformations and population’s increased political activity. There were the active discussions among the parties and the electorate, the candidates voiced critical assessments of the electoral programs of their opponents. There were the TV debates among their representatives.
The elections are directly observed by 971 international observers from almost 50 countries and 20 leading international organizations. About 1,7 thousand representatives of domestic and foreign mass media were accredited in order to ensure transparency and openness of the electoral process.
The presidential elections are an important political event for the future of the country. The citizens are acutely aware of this and taking an active part at the elections.
