On September 14 President Shavkat Mirziyoyev received a delegation led by Managing Director of the International Finance Corporation (IFC) Mahtar Diop.
At the beginning of the meeting, the President paid a special attention to strengthening the rapidly developing effective cooperation and strategic partnership with the World Bank Group, which includes the IFC.
Thanks to the open and constructive dialogue, the wish to raise cooperation to a qualitatively new level, the portfolio of joint projects in Uzbekistan with the participation of the World Bank has reached $5 billion, covering all priorities and sectors of the country.
In 2016, the IFC resumed its activities in our country. During this period, the volume of corporate operations tripled and amounted to about $200 million.
Currently, the important projects are being implemented to develop the public-private partnerships (PPPs), modernize transport, transform the banking sector, reform microfinance institutions, introduce international standards in the field of textile production and other important areas.
During the talks, a special attention was paid to expanding the IFC’s participation in the programs and projects in support of health and education reforms, including the improvement of governance and the digitization of processes.
In addition, the importance of developing cooperation in the sphere of entrepreneurship, the introduction of effective mechanisms for business financing, privatization of state-owned enterprises and best practices in the development of PPPs, as well as support for «green technologies», including the innovative technologies, the projects in the energy and agriculture.
An agreement was reached to draft a joint road map and hold the regular expert meetings.
