On August 18, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev has had a telephone conversation with the Federal Chancellor of Germany Angela Merkel.

During the conversation, the Leaders considered the topical issues on the bilateral agenda and exchanged views on the current situation in the region in the context of unfolding situation in Afghanistan.

The convergence of positions and approaches between the two countries was emphasized in preventing the escalation of tension and violence in this country, as well as the full support of the international community for a political settlement of the Afghan conflict.

The importance of continuing close coordination and active interdepartmental cooperation in the implementation of humanitarian operations on the airlift of citizens from Afghanistan to Germany in transit through the territory of Uzbekistan was noted.

An agreement was reached to maintain regular contacts at the top and high levels on the further developments in the region.
