The Uzbek people have suffered a heavy loss. On August 15 this year, at the age of 72, a well-known religious and outstanding public figure, Chairman of the Muslims’ Board of Uzbekistan, Mufti Usmonkhon Temirkhon o’g’li Alimov has passed away.
Usmonkhon Alimov was born on January 1, 1950 in the Ishtikhan District of the Samarkand Region. In 1982-1983, he studied at the Madrasah Mir-i Arab in the city of Bukhara, in 1983-1987 – at the Tashkent Islamic Institute, in 1989-1990 – at the University of al-Qarawiyyin (Morocco).
Having deeply studied the fundamentals of the Islamic religion and mastered the Arabic and Persian languages, in 1980-2006 he carried out an effective work as the Deputy Imam and Imam-Khatib of the Imam Bukhari Mosque in the Payariq District of the Samarkand Region. He showed his high organizational skills and initiative in the course of large-scale work on the construction and improvement of the mausoleum, where our great ancestor Imam Bukhari found eternal peace.
Usmonkhon domla considered himself a «servant of Imam Bukhari» and was always proud of this honorary title. Becoming the author of the work «Imom Bukhoriy Barakoti», he was one of the first in our country to write about the life and work of «the sultan in the science of hadith» - Imam Bukhari.
In 2000-2006 years, he selflessly worked as the Chief Imam-Khatib of the Samarkand Region, applying his rich knowledge and life experience in noble endeavors.
In 2006, Usmonkhon Alimov was elected Chairman of the Muslim Board of Uzbekistan, Mufti. Over the past period, he made an invaluable contribution to ensuring the stability of the socio-spiritual, religious and educational situation in our country, protecting and promoting the humanistic essence of our religion, educating the younger generation in the spirit of respect for national values and generosity, training qualified personnel for this field.
The Mufti made a great contribution to the reforms in the religious sphere carried out in the Board of Muslims’ of Uzbekistan in recent years, in particular, in such noble deeds as the opening of the new madrasahs and mosques, the organization of courses for studying the Quran, the publication of the Holy Quran in Arabic and Uzbek languages, the organization of information center under the management, creation of a public charitable foundation «Waqf», strengthening the relations with Islamic countries and foreign partners.
Not only the Muslims of our country and Central Asia, but the entire Muslim world respected and honored Usmonkhon Alimov as a highly enlightened person and a distinguished scientist.
In 2012, he was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly of the Islamic World Association and a member of the World Council of Ulema (Muslim scholars theologians and jurists in the countries of the Near and Middle East). In recent years, he has taken a worthy place in the list of the 500 most influential Muslims in the world, compiled by the Jordanian Islamic Center for Strategic Studies.
Usmonkhon Alimov was a recognized scholar in all Islamic sciences. He was awarded the title of Honorary Doctor of the International Islamic Academy of Uzbekistan. The work «Tafsiri Ifron» authored by the Mufti is an excellent Uzbek-language interpretation of the meanings of the Holy Quran.
More than 20 books have become widely known among our public, such as «Imom Bukhoriy - muqaddislar sultoni» («Imam Bukhari - sultan of the hadith collectors»), «Khazrati Imom» («Khazrat Imam»), «Yoshlar – kelajagimiz» («Youth – our future»), «Rasulullohning muborak vasiyatlari» («Blessed Testaments of the Messenger of Allah»), «Oilada farzand tarbiyasi» («Upbringing a child in family»), as well as over a hundred popular scientific articles of the scholar.
Usmonkhon Alimov always shared the concerns and joys of the people. For educational purposes, he organized a special section «So’ragan edingiz» («You have asked»), in which he helped to find answers and solutions to many controversial issues of interest to the public.
For the valuable services to state and people, a worthy contribution to strengthening the spirit of generosity and interfaith harmony in our society, Usmonkhon Alimov was awarded the order «El-Yurt Hurmati» (‘The Esteem of the Nation’).
The bright memory of the wonderful son of our people, the famous ulema (religious scholars), an outstanding public figure, a caring mentor of youth, a modest and sincere person Usmonkhon Alimov will forever remain in our hearts.
