On August 6 the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a meeting with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.
The President has stressed the high level of organization of the next Consultative Meeting of the Heads of Central Asian States taking place in the National Tourist Zone «Avaza» of Turkmenistan, which will undoubtedly become another important stage in strengthening the regional cooperation.
The Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan discussed the topical issues of the bilateral agenda, cooperation on the regional and international platforms.
The Leaders have noted with satisfaction that despite a difficult period of the pandemic, the Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good neighborliness and strategic partnership demonstrate dynamic development.
A special attention is paid to the expansion of trade and economic ties.
The implementation of previously reached agreements was reviewed at the meeting. The importance of promoting the new projects, intensifying contacts between neighboring regions and business circles of the two countries to continue the positive pace of cooperation was noted.
The prospects for the development of transport and logistics infrastructure, access to new markets through the corridors of South Asia and the South Caucasus, including the creation of an international transport and transit corridor under the Ashgabat Agreement, were considered.
During the conversation, the issues of preparation for the upcoming meetings at the top level were addressed. An agreement was reached to hold regular meetings of the Intergovernmental Commission and the Business Council in the near future to identify the new «growth points» and prepare promising projects and agreements.
The Leaders also paid attention to the issues of expanding cultural and humanitarian cooperation.
At the end of the meeting, the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan have reaffirmed their commitment to consistently deepen strategic partnership based on the principles of mutual trust and respect for the benefit of the peoples of the two countries.
