The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev received the Vice-President of the European Commission, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell in the framework of the International Conference, «Central and South Asia: Regional Connectivity. Challenges and Opportunities»
The topical issues of Uzbek-European multifaceted cooperation were discussed.
Josep Borrell conveyed the greetings and best wishes from the President of the European Council Charles Michel and the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen to our President. He stressed the importance and timeliness of the global initiative of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to develop the connectivity of Central and South Asia.
During the meeting, the dynamic development of partnership between Uzbekistan and the EU, which has been observed in recent years, was noted with satisfaction. The importance of further expansion of multifaceted cooperation, primarily in the areas of the human dimension and democratic transitions, business promotion, investment and innovation, «green development», ecology, cultural exchange and other areas was emphasized. It was noted that the negotiations on Enhanced Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Uzbekistan and the European Union were nearing completion.
There was a detailed exchange of views on the international agenda. The special attention was paid to the issues of promoting a peaceful settlement in Afghanistan.
