On July 9, The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev got acquainted with a presentation on the development of sports education and training the Olympic reserve.

Today, there are 15 Olympic reserve colleges, 344 sports schools and 7 top sports school in our country. Three hundred eighty thousand young people regularly practice more than 100 types of sports. 

The participants of the Olympic reserve colleges have won 723 medals at the international competitions and more than 10 thousand medals at the republic tournaments over the past three years. Approximately 4,5 thousand students were accepted to the national team.

It is necessary to strengthen the material and technical base of sports educational institutions, improve the skills of coaches for the further development of this field. 

In particular, almost 6 thousand out of about 14 thousand coaches working in these institutions do not have higher education. There is also a shortage of coaches in equestrian sports, modern pentathlon, rugby, shooting, archery, cycling, diving and synchronous swimming.

In this regard, during the presentation, the issues of radical improvement of the sports education system, the introduction of modern programs and methods, the development of the material and technical base of institutions were discussed.

The President instructed to improve the infrastructure of the Olympic reserve colleges and the Universities of physical culture and sports, to increase the quality of sports education and to expand the number of participants and students. 

It was determined that an additional quota of up to 10 percent would be allocated for athletes sent to the departments of Paralympic sports of the Olympic reserve colleges, the procedure for charging parents for tuition fees in these departments will be canceled. At the same time, the gender parity will be accepted according to the requirements of the International Olympic Committee by increasing the quota for girls.

The instructions were given to strengthen the selection work, ensure openness and transparency, and eliminate corruption in this process. The task was to launch the electronic platform for students` admission to the Olympic reserve college, selection the gifted sportsmen and organization the competitions. 

The President noted the importance of interaction the Olympic reserve colleges with the sports federations, the wide used such specialists as promoters, scouts, agents in the promotion of talented youth and the development of these spheres.

The instructions were given to improve physical, medical and psychological training, pharmacological support of the athletes. The necessity of developing the scientific component of sports training and the management system of educational institutions was noted.

The sports schools will train the athletes with categories and titles on the basis of government order from 2021/2022 academic years. 

The need was noted to attract the qualified foreign specialists in those types of sports in which there are not enough coaches, to assign them local coaches and students to study experience.

The instructions were also given to build and reconstruct the sports educational institutions, to provide them with modern equipment and sports literature.

The preparations for the Summer Olympic and Paralympic games were discussed at the meeting.  Our athletes have won a total 126 tickets to the prestigious competition, which will be held in Tokyo, the capital of Japan.

The President noted the necessity to ensure the comprehensive support for the athletes and coaches to create all the conditions to achieve the high results. At the same time, he instructed to start preparing for the 2024 Olympic Games in France.
