On June 29, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The President has warmly congratulated the President of Turkmenistan on his birthday and sincerely wished him a sound health, well-being and great success, as well as peace and prosperity to the brotherly Turkmen people.

During the conversation, the topical issues of bilateral and regional cooperation were considered.

It was noted with deep satisfaction that, thanks to regular and productive contacts at the top level, the Uzbek-Turkmen relations of friendship, good-neighborliness and strategic partnership continue to be steadily strengthened.

The importance of continuing the joint efforts to increase the volume of mutual trade, deepen cooperation in the industry, energy, agriculture, transport and other sectors, and intensify cultural and humanitarian exchange was emphasized. The key role of the Intergovernmental Commission in promoting new cooperation projects was noted.

The Presidents highlighted the organization of the next Consultative Meeting of the Heads of State of Central Asia this year in Turkmenistan. The agreement was reached as to thoroughly prepare the program of the forthcoming multilateral event.

The Presidents also exchanged views on the international agenda and discussed the development of the military-political situation in Afghanistan, including in the borderline northern provinces of this country.

The telephone conversation between the Presidents of Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan took place in a traditionally warm, friendly and business-like atmosphere.
