Following the results of the talks, the ceremony of signing the document took place.
The President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon signed a Joint Statement, which enshrines the key agreements and defines long-term tasks for further building up and intensifying the multifaceted mutually beneficial cooperation and strategic partnership between the two countries.
The ceremony of exchanging the signed agreements on establishing the Uzbek-Tajik investment company, on cooperation in the field of industry, new technologies and mining industry, on the implementation of a mutual joint stock company for the hydroelectric power station construction on the Zarafshan River, agreements on the transit of goods, as well as protocols on amendments to the Agreement on the mutual provision of land plots for diplomatic missions, on amendments to the Agreement on mutual trips of citizens, the Program of Cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries and the Road Map for further development of cooperation in the agriculture took place in the presence of the Presidents.
In total, 35 documents were signed comprising such areas as energy, transport, automotive, electrical engineering, mining and light industry, science, education, sports and others.
This solid package of documents creates a powerful base for the further comprehensive development of mutually beneficial relations between the two fraternal countries and peoples, for the achievement of new certain results in deepening the multifaceted partnerships.
At the media briefing, Shavkat Mirziyoyev and Emomali Rahmon noted that the negotiations were held in a traditionally open, trustworthy and friendly atmosphere.
We truly cherish the centuries-long friendship of our peoples, who are strongly linked by the common history and culture, religion, spiritual values and traditions.
Here the representatives of the media and delegations members are witnessing the dramatic changes occurred in the development of Uzbek-Tajik relations over the past few years.
Further strengthening of the good neighbourly relations with Tajikistan is the main and invariable priority of Uzbekistan’s foreign policy. We carefully considered the whole range of issues for further development of the multifaceted cooperation. I want to note that every single direction was paid attention to, - said President Mirziyoyev.
During the talks, the sides identified the new points of growth and designated a two-fold increase in trade in the next year as a reference point. The leaders agreed to use to the full the opportunities of the regions of the two countries, to «tie» them at the district level.
The Presidents were pleased to note the productive outcomes of the recent meetings of the Forum of Regions and the meeting of the Business Council, as well as the fact of signing of contracts and investment agreements worth over $1 billion during the visit.
Uzbekistan and Tajikistan are interested in deepening cooperation in the field of transport and transit. During the negotiations, the leaders agreed to further create favorable conditions for increasing the rail, road and air traffic.
In turn, President Emomali Rahmon has underscored that the implementation of joint projects in the agricultural sector, light, food and mining industries, hydropower will increase trade and create new jobs. He has noted with pleasure the expansion of partnerships in the spheres of education and medicine, to jointly counter the coronavirus pandemic.
In addition, the leaders have agreed to intensify the mutual exchanges in the spheres of culture, science, healthcare and education.
«We intend to comprehensively support the activities of the medical and educational institutions in our countries, which today are the new symbols of developing friendship and partnership», - Shavkat Mirziyoyev said.
It was underlined that all these issues will be under the direct control of the bilateral Intergovernmental Commission led by the Prime Ministers of our countries.
The President of Uzbekistan expressed full support for the initiatives of the President of Tajikistan on declaring 2025 the International Year for the Preservation of Glaciers and the creation of a special International Fund for Glaciers.
«Today’s negotiations have once again demonstrated our determination and decisiveness to strengthen the relations of centuries-long friendship, trust, good-neighbourliness and strategic partnership», - President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has said in conclusion. - «Our joint efforts are aimed at achieving certain, tangible results of cooperation between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan for further prosperity of the two brotherly peoples».
