Each time when setting a task for the economic complex, our President emphasizes the need for planning, search and development of «growth points» taking into account the pecuilarities of each region.
One of such areas in the Surkhandarya Region is pomegranate cultivation. Sherabad pomegranates are famous for their size, taste and high yield. This makes them famous abroad as well. In Sherabad, the cultivation of pomegranates is an important source of income for the local population. 33 out of 48 makhallas (local neighborhood community areas) in the district, specialize in cultivating pomegranates.
Limited liability company «Sardorbek Sultanbek» established one of these pomegranate orchards in the «Buston» makhalla of the district.

More than 30 thousand pomegranate trees have been planted here on 43 hectares. One pomegranate fruit of «Kozoki» variety can weigh almost 1 kilogram. This year it is planned to collect more than a thousand tons of fruits.
- The transition period is a time of competition. We need to change our lives, compete for our place in the world market and implement profitable projects. Our main goal is to increase the income of the families. A family that strives to work and achieves the results will live in prosperity, take care of their health and give a proper education to their children. And the educated children will find their life path in the future, - the President said.
A conversation with the researchers of the Termez branch of the Tashkent State Agrarian University also took place here.
- We have the traditions of pomegranate cultivation, but there is no science, no books, laboratories. The pomegranate is cultivated in the old-fashioned way. Not everyone knows how to protect plants from disease. The main thing is to create the best varieties. Then we must popularize these varieties among the population, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It was instructed to organize the institute for the innovative development of agriculture, the expansion of cultivation, in addition to pomegranates, lemons and persimmons in Surkhandarya.
The President also visited the Kattabog makhalla of this district, met with the family of Abdurakhmon Karimov, who grows the pomegranates and got acquainted with the living conditions of the population and the use of household plots. A sincere conversation with the residents of the mahalla and aqsaqals (the elderly) took place.
It was noted that more than 5 thousand people are engaged in pomegranate cultivation in the Sherabad District. The pomegranate gardens bring them significant income.
