On May 21, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev took part in a regular meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council via videoconference.
Uzbekistan became an observer-state at the Eurasian Economic Union during the summit of this Organization on December 11 last year.
Over the past period, a Memorandum of Eurasian Economic Commission Cooperation and a three-year Action Plan on its implementation was signed. Representatives of our country participate in various multilateral events of the EEC. In April this year, a meeting of the Industrial Policy Council and an International Exhibition «Innoprom» were held in the city of Tashkent.
The current meeting of the Supreme Council, chaired by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, was also attended by the Honorary Chairman of the Council, the First President of Kazakhstan, Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, the Acting Prime Minister of the Republic of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, the President of the Republic of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko, the President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, the President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin, the President of Cuba, the EEC observer-state Miguel Bermudez and the Chairman of the Board of the Eurasian Economic Commission Mikhail Myasnikovich.
The event agenda included the topical issues of practical cooperation in various sectors of the economy and enhancement of the EEC activities.
In his statement, the President of Uzbekistan highlighted the most important tasks that require coordinated approaches.
In particular, the followings were highlighted:
- vast potential for further expansion of trade relations, including by removing barriers and converging non-tariff trade measures;
- the importance of deepening industrial cooperation between leading enterprises and regions of our countries, promoting projects in the real sector of the economy and ensuring food security, with the involvement of the Eurasian Development Bank;
- solution on the topical issues in the transport and transit area and expanding mutual preferences to increase the freight transport volume.
In view of the stabilization of the epidemiological situation and the ongoing vaccination measures, it was proposed to resume regular air and rail links between the countries of the region.
In addition, the possibility of connecting Uzbekistan to the EEC digital platforms on tax and customs administration, industry, labor migration and tourism is being considered, as well as opportunities for cooperation in a number of other priority areas are being studied.
In conclusion, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan has once again emphasized the importance of achieving tangible results for our country through interacting with the Eurasian Economic Union as an observer-state.
