The art and culture of our country have suffered a great loss. On May 16, this year, at the age of 76, the man of a great and unique talent, an outstanding director and actor, honored and people’s artist of the Republic of Uzbekistan Bakhodir Tursunovich Yuldashev, who made an enormous contribution to the development of the national theatrical art, passed away.
B.Yuldashev was born on September 7, 1945 in the town of Kattakurgan, Samarkand Region, to a family of actors. After graduating from high school, he studied directing at the Tashkent Theater and Art Institute.
He began his career as an actor of the Uzbek State Academic Drama Theater (now the Uzbek National Academic Drama Theater). In this theater of rich history and glorious traditions, the actor has quickly developed into a talented director with his own sinewy style and creative principles. At the age of 27, he was appointed Chief Director and Artistic Director of the theater. During his thirteen years of activity in this abode of art, he made a significant contribution to creating a unique creative atmosphere in the team, enriching the theater’s repertoire with both classical and modern works of national and foreign authors, as well as educating young talents.
In 1984-2004 he worked as the Artistic Director of the Uzbek State Drama Theater named after Abror Khidoyatov.
B.Yuldashev, a person who loved the art dearly and considered a dedicated service to it as meaning of his life, established his own creative school of Uzbek directing.
Dozens of dramatic performances staged by B.Yuldashev, including «Abu Raikhan Beruniy», «Ibn Sina», «Iskandar», «Nodirabegim», «The Starry Nights», «The Black Belt», «Farmonbibi is Upset», «The Rebellion of the Brides», «The Maysara’s Case», «Checha» and «Arshin Mal Alan», won the hearts of millions of art lovers and were included into the «golden fund» of our theatrical art. Many of these performances were a resounding success abroad.
Constantly striving to enrich the national theatrical art with new ideas, interpretations and unique works, B.Yuldashev also received wide recognition – both in our country and abroad – as an outstanding director of areal performances, mass cultural events where the width of artistic thinking and director’s perfectionism manifested.
The creative activity and organizational skills of B.Yuldashev especially clearly emerged in the years of independence. Our people and the creative community are well aware and highly appreciate the tedious work and selfless efforts of the master in creating art programs for national holidays of Independence Day and Navruz, the world famous Sharq Taronalari music festival, as well as international festivals of maqom and bakhshi arts, folk applied art.
The outstanding artist, who devoted his entire mature life to the development of national art, in 2009 he founded the experimental youth theater-studio «Diydor» and led it until the end of his life. Through the activities of this studio, he has unveiled and helped dozens of young talents to realize themselves, brought to the stage and promoted the classics of national literature.
To impart the rich knowledge and experience to a younger generation, B.Yuldashev conducted very meaningful «Lessons of Mastery» on central television, dedicated to theoretical and practical issues of acting and directing skills.
B.Yuldashev’s merits in the development of national art and culture were appreciated by state. He was awarded: the honorary titles «Honored Art Worker of the Republic of Uzbekistan» and «People’s Artist of the Republic of Uzbekistan», the orders «Mekhnat Shukhrati» (‘The Fame of the Labor’), «Fidokorona Hizmatlari Uchun» (‘For the Selfless Labor’), «El-Yurt Hurmati» (‘The Esteem of the Nation’), «Buyuk Hizmatlari Uchun» (‘For Outstanding Services’).
