On May 12, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev held a telephone conversation with Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga.
The topical issues of further development of the Uzbek-Japanese relations of strategic partnership and multifaceted cooperation were discussed.
The high level of practical interaction, open and productive dialogue achieved following the visit to Japan at the highest level in December 2019 was noted with satisfaction.
The President has sincerely thanked the Prime Minister and the Government of Japan for the active support of the comprehensive reform program in the country to build a new Uzbekistan, as well as for the assistance provided in combating coronavirus and overcoming the economic consequences of the pandemic.
In turn, the Prime Minister of Japan has outlined his readiness to expand financial and technical assistance to Uzbekistan in order to further promote transformations, the development of modern industrial and social infrastructure.
The Japanese side expressed a special gratitude for the continued support provided by Tashkent in the denuclearization of the Korean peninsula and the return of abducted Japanese citizens.
The prospects of development of bilateral trade, economic, investment and financial cooperation were considered.
The President of Uzbekistan has highly appreciated the productive partnership with the JICA, leading companies, banking and financial institutions of Japan. Last year, despite the global crisis and quarantine restrictions, with the participation of Japanese investors and specialists, such priority projects as the construction of the Turakurgan TPP, the second phase of the expansion of the Navoiy TPP, the high-tech production of ammonia and carbamide at the Navoiyazot enterprise was launched.
The importance of creating favorable conditions for increasing the volume of mutual trade and investment was emphasized.
The leaders welcomed the initiative to introduce the effective financial support tools for the joint business projects.
The sides also exchanged views on the international agenda, issues of ensuring regional security and stability. The readiness to expand the practical interactions in the format of «Central Asia plus Japan» was expressed.
The Japanese side announced its support and participation in the international conference on the connectivity of Central and South Asia, which will be held in July this year in Tashkent.
At the end of the conversation, the President of Uzbekistan wished a successful holding of the Tokyo Olympic and Paralympic Games, and invited the Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga to visit our country.
The telephone conversation between the leaders of Uzbekistan and Japan took place in a traditionally open, friendly and business manner.
